The 16th century is the century in which ceramic production in Acquapendente came into full swing. We know many aspects of it thanks to countless notarial documents.
The workshops had a master owner with whom various apprentices collaborated. The Vascellari were part of a guild that protected the workers and could enter into collective agreements, supplying raw materials and negotiating for the purchase of colours.
In the 16th century, there was a kiln for ceramics near the Bishop’s Palace, opposite La Campanella cafeteria. A visit to the cafeteria allows visitors to admire some of the artefacts found by the local Archaeological Group in the “butto”, as well as the ceramic works of local craftsmanship.
